When Art Meets Ambition
When you think about what’s taking shape at Mosaic Quarter near I-10 and Kino/Campbell, it’s easy to focus on the ice rink, the field house, the entertainment venues. But look at those walls — really look at them — and you start to see something else entirely: a canvas.
Mosaic Quarter is proud to officially announce that the complex will be home to Tucson’s newest mural destination — a large-scale public art program woven into the very fabric of the campus. From the very beginning, this project was about more than building a sports and entertainment complex. It was about creating a place people can feel. And that includes art.
A Vision Rooted in Community
Lindsay Knott, Vice President of Mosaic Quarter, says the idea grew organically out of conversations about how the development could feel genuinely rooted in Southern Arizona.
“We started talking about how we can implement that with an opportunity to make the buildings be a part of the community,” Knott said. “That led to us having a conversation about implementing murals.”
The result is a program that honors Tucson’s deep legacy of public art while creating something entirely new — a destination where sport, community, and creativity all exist in one place.
Meet the Artists
We’ve partnered with six of Tucson’s most celebrated muralists: Ignacio Garcia, Jessica Gonzales, Pen Macias, Danny Martin, Rock Martinez, and Joe Pagac — artists whose work helps define the visual voice of this city. Each will bring a distinct perspective to the project, with full creative freedom to paint what moves them. There’s no requirement for a sports theme, just a drive to create something bold and beautiful at scale.
Ignacio Garcia, one of Tucson’s most prolific mural artists who also helped assemble the team, put it simply: “I was quite honored for them to pick me and to create something this massive. These murals are a reflection of Tucson and how much people feel so connected, and they’re so proud of that identity.”
What’s Coming — and Where
Across the campus, the murals will be integrated into the experience in a big way:
- 7 murals at the MQ Iceplex
- A wraparound mural at the Central Utility Plant
- 3 murals at the MQ Field House
Many of them will be visible directly from I-10, turning the drive past the complex into a gallery experience all its own.
These murals are foundational to how this space comes together.
Just the Beginning
MQ Iceplex is the first part of the Mosaic Quarter to open, with a Spring 2026 target on the horizon. But the walls will be ready for paint well before the doors open to the public. Visitors, athletes, and neighbors can look forward to a complex that doesn’t just host Tucson’s community — it actively celebrates it.
This is Mosaic Quarter, built in Tucson, for Tucson. And this is just the beginning.
Stay tuned for more updates as the murals take shape and the campus comes to life.
